    About Chemical Applicators

Broadly speaking, chemical applicators can range in scale from a back-mounted tank and sprayer wand to a large, self-propelled sprayer with long, mechanical spray booms and cutting-edge precision ag tech. They are used to apply various types of chemicals, including fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides, to help plants grow and to protect them from flora and fauna that would otherwise impede their growth. The chemical applicator category on this site includes multiple subcategories, including dry, liquid, and anhydrous fertilizer applicators; self-propelled, pull-type, and mounted sprayers; liquid and dry tenders; floaters; and other chemical applicators.

    Applicator Types

Fertilizer applicators include units that hold dry fertilizer in a hopper to the rear of the cab and employ a power take-off (PTO)-powered broadcast wheel for application, liquid units with a tank on top that inject fertilizer into the ground, and anhydrous units that work with a separate ammonia tank pulled behind the applicator.

Floaters are self-propelled applicators with large flotation tires designed to reduce soil compaction while applying dry or liquid fertilizer. Sprayers can be self-propelled, pull-type, or mounted; self-propelled and pull-type models have tall, narrow tires designed to move nimbly through crop rows, and back or side booms that extend far to each side and apply chemicals through evenly spaced spray nozzles.

As with applicators, tenders come in liquid and dry varieties. Liquid tenders are tanks or wagons that are used to transport fertilizer, and dry tenders can be pull-type or mounted hoppers that transport large quantities of dry fertilizer. If none of these subcategories match the new or used chemical applicators you’re looking for, try the Other Chemical Applicators category, which is where you’ll find items such as portable seed treaters, sprayer booms, gopher getters, and more.
