    About McCormick

McCormick farm equipment traces its origins to 1831 when Cyrus Hall McCormick founded the McCormick Deering Company to produce the first mechanical reaper, an invention he made by redesigning a reaper created by his father. McCormick received his first patents in 1834 for the reaper and a plough, and moved his company, now the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, from his home in Raphine, Virginia, to Chicago.

    Expansion & Corporate Changes

In 1902, McCormick joined several other manufacturers to create the International Harvester Co., which by 1911 had diversified its product lines to include mowers, tedders, rakes, and fertilizer distributors and released its first 10- to 20-horsepower tractor. The company produced its first combined harvester thresher, or “combine” as it is more simply known today, in 1914. The mid-20th century saw production expand to Doncaster in Great Britain, as well as St. Dizier, France, and Neuss, Germany, to meet growing demand, and also introduced the first Farmall tractors. In 1970, McCormick introduced the first European tractors with synchronized transmissions and optional hydrostatic transmissions. The McCormick brand became the property of Argo Tractors in 2000, when Case IH divested the brand prior to its merger with New Holland.

    Continued Innovation

Today McCormick offers a variety of tractors, including orchard and vineyard models, as well as harvesters, planting and tillage equipment, hay and forage, and other types of farm equipment. The company’s X7-series tractors are among its most popular products, with models ranging from 165- to 226-horsepower (121- to 166-kilowatt) Betapower diesel engines that meet emissions regulations through the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). X7 tractors come with two transmission options, the P6-Drive and the VT-Drive. The P6-Drive offers 54 speeds with six powershifts, and the VT-Drive is a continuously variable transmission that provides infinite speeds from zero to the maximum travel speed.
