McCormick Brings Back Xtractor Expedition

In 2015, McCormick organized a 45-day expedition with four tractors (three X7 and an X6 series) traveling 5,282 miles (8,500 kilometers) across Australia. The route took the tractors across the open spaces of the Outback, along the Pacific coast, and near the largest coral reef in the world. Discovery Channel and other media documented the journey, helping to showcase the challenges faced by agriculture in Australia. In April 2018, McCormick tractors will begin another expedition—this time across South Africa.

Xtractor Around the World

The second convoy of McCormick tractors plan to cover 3,728 miles (6,000 kilometers) in 55 days, and the tour will consist of McCormick X8 and X7 tractors. McCormick will start off from Cape Town and the journey begins with a leisurely trip through the vineyards of the Garden Route. Things should get a bit more challenging when the tractors start inland across South Africa’s semidesert interior. Eventually, McCormick plans for the tractors to push into the Great Karoo and the sand dunes of the Kalahari desert.

After going as far to the North-West of South Africa as possible, the McCormick tractors will head up to the summits of Lesotho. A steep descent down the slopes of the Drakensberg chain will lead the X8 and X7 tractors back down near the Indian Ocean. The expedition will also visit some of South Africa’s celebrated nature parks, such as Kruger. Johannesburg and Pretoria will mark the finishing line for Xtractor’s second challenge.
