Also known as “baggers,” touring motorcycles are some of the bulkiest and heaviest bikes on the road, with some models weighing in the neighborhood of 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms). While you could certainly add saddlebags to a standard, a cruiser, or another model type for long rides, touring bikes are expressly built for long-haul rides, and this is reflected in their design and equipment.

To deliver a comfortable, upright riding position while burning through hundreds of miles at a stretch, for example, touring models have rear-position handlebars and forward-set foot pegs.
