    About John Deere Zero-Turn Mowers

John Deere’s long, storied history of developing and manufacturing farm tractors, combines, and other agricultural equipment dates to 1837 when John Deere himself invented a new steel farm plow design in his Grand Detour, Illinois, blacksmith’s shop. The company has since expanded its offerings to several other sectors, including the lawn and garden industry, where it sells equipment for homeowners and small acreage owners on through to commercial lawn care professionals.

In addition to compact tractors, lawn tractors, Gator utility vehicles, and a wide array of attachments and implements, Deere’s lineup features zero-turn mowers (ZTRs) that can tackle spaces anywhere from 1 to 8 or more acres (4,047 to 32,374 square meters). TractorHouse.com hosts for-sale listings for a huge selection of new and used Deere ZTRs, including models for just about any lawn or lawns. Favorites includes the Z915E, Z920M, Z930M, and Z950M.

    Why Buy A ZTR?

ZTRs, also known as “zero-turn radius mowers,” are perfect for flat, expansive spaces. Compared to other mower types, ZTRs have larger fuel tanks that require fewer refills, and higher-power gas and diesel engines—typically 20 to 30 or more horsepower (15 to 22-plus kilowatts)—that allow faster forward speeds. They also have more durable frames, and wider, more easily adjustable cutting decks ranging from 122 to 183 centimetres (48 to 72 inches).

What really distinguishes ZTRs is their enhanced manoeuvrability, which helps mow around trees, bushes, and other obstacles. This “turn on a dime” agility is due to the steer levers, bars, or pedals they use in place of a steering wheel and their pivoting front wheels.

    John Deere ZTRs

John Deere ZTRs come in Z300-, Z500-, and Z700-series models that are available in E, M, and R trim levels indicating standard, midrange, and high-end engine power and feature classifications, respectively. Z300 models can mow at up to 11.3 km/h (7 mph), and include 20- to 25-HP (18.4-kW) engines, 107- to 137-cm (42- to 54-in.) Accel Deep decks, and a 46-cm (18-in.) medium-back seat with a two-coil suspension.

Deere’s Z500-series models can mow at up to 14.5 km/h (9 mph). They’re equipped with up to 25-HP V-twin engines, up to 152-cm (60-in.) Accel Deep or High-Capacity decks, up to 57-cm (22.5-in.) seats with ComfortGlide suspensions, LED lights, and a rear hitch.

Deere Z700-series ZTRs can reach mowing speeds up to 16 km/h (10 mph) mowing speeds, and include an up to 152-cm High-Capacity PRO deck stamped from 9-gauge steel, an up to 61-cm (24-in.) high-back adjustable seat with a full mechanical suspension, a parking brake, and an adjustable three-position foot platform.

Deere Commercial ZTrak 900 Series ZTRs

Deere also manufacturers commercial-grade ZTrak 900 mowers available in Z900 models with up to 183-cm Mulch On Demand (mulch or side-discharge capabilities) or FastBack PRO rear-discharge decks, up to 37.4-HP (27.5-kW) gas or diesel engines, and 43.5-litre (11.5-gallon) fuel tanks. R models include a Comfort & Convenience Package with electronic controls, an exclusive Hydraulic Cross-Porting System, Deere’s Brake-N-Go System, and an adjustable suspension seat with lumbar support. Another option worth noting is Deere’s optional one-touch MulchControl Kit, which makes easy work of mulching grass clippings.
