    About Liquid Manure Spreaders

Manure spreaders, also called “muck spreaders” or “honey wagons,” come in two basic types: dry or liquid. Liquid manure spreaders pump liquid manure from a built-in tank, mounted either to a trailer or a truck, to attachments that spray or inject the liquid manure. Tankers are available in a wide range of sizes, from as small as 2,000 gallons (7,570 liters) to as large as 10,000 gal (37,854 L). Liquid manure spreader manufacturers typically offer a variety of toolbars, hoses, and attachments to match nutrient application needs.

    Application Options

Liquid manure spreaders cover a wide range of application techniques, typically mirroring the spray methods available from liquid fertilizer systems. Direct, vertical-injection options have gained popularity in recent years because they reduce nutrient loss and minimize the potential for runoff and odor. Manufacturers offer direct injection through toolbars with aerators, cultivators, or discs. The ability to deliver liquid manure closer to the ground is also possible with low-to-the-ground attachments, such as spray booms or drop hoses with spray nozzles, that can evenly distribute liquid manure and reduce runoff. Distribution systems may also work with a drag hose, instead of a tanker, where liquid manure is pumped directly from a slurry pond.

    Tank Features

Beyond tank capacity, liquid manure spreaders may include features to maximize the quality of liquid manure and simplify loading. An in-tank recirculation kit, for example, will agitate the liquid manure to maintain the slurry’s homogeneity and reduce the chance of sediment settling and plugging the attachments. For ease of use, some liquid manure spreaders feature a self-loading option to pump liquid manure from another spreader. You might also add a nursing kit, which transfers liquid manure from a ground reservoir. Integrated drain systems can help to remove unused liquid manure or discharge debris.

    Truck Or Trailer Mount

Truck-mount liquid manure spreaders are typically used on operations where the liquid manure must be transported a long distance over the road. Trailer-mounted options, by comparison, often feature high-floatation tires to minimize the ground pressure and avoid soil compaction in the field.
