John Deere’s HarvestLab 3000 System Now Available With Liquid Manure Constituent Sensing Ability

Good news for growers who apply liquid manure to their fields: John Deere will offer its HarvestLab 3000 sensor with Manure Constituent Sensing ability starting this August. The system enables users to more accurately analyze, adjust, and document liquid manure gallons applied per acre to meet specific nutrient targets, and it’s all done on the fly. The system can analyze liquid manure 4,000 times per second, providing lab-quality measurements of nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous, and dry matter content, Deere says.

“The Most Versatile Tool”

John Mishler, Deere precision ag tactical marketing manager, says HarvestLab 3000 “may be the most versatile tool producers can use to analyze and manage their forage, feed, and manure resources." Billed as a three-in-one tool, the portable sensor can also analyze forage at harvest and at feeding times. When used for liquid-manure application, the system displays nutrient values on an in-cab John Deere display. Using Tractor Implement Automation, tractor and applicator speeds automatically adjust so that desired manure application rates or nutrient levels are met. Customers can also use JDLink Connect to send application data wirelessly to the John Deere Operations Center for mapping, documentation, and sharing purposes.

“HarvestLab analyzes the entire load in real time so applicators know exactly how much material is applied per acre and what the nutrient values are,” Mishler says. “It takes out all the guesswork, resulting in better decisions and more uniform nutrient applications and, ultimately, better crop response."

Get Ready

Deere notes that customers with existing HarvestLab 3000 units will need to order necessary parts to install the sensor on their manure applicators, and will also need to activate manure-sensing software. Customers can use the system with various tankers or dragline equipment used to apply liquid swine, beef, and dairy cattle manure.
