Read More (About Sunflower)Sunflower Manufacturing of Beloit, Kansas, produces tillage and seeding equipment under the corporate umbrella of the Agco Corporation. The agricultural implement maker is said to have pioneered the genre of flexible tillage tools that conform to the undulations of the field.
The Sunflower company dates back to 1941 when Charles W. Fleming and Orland Hazen became partners in the acquisition of the Sunflower Express Truck Line. The trucking firm began to manufacture agriculture equipment in 1945 when its owners acquired the patent rights to the Diamond Packer erosion control tool. The Diamond Packer tamped down the soil using a series of heavy cast wheels with diamond-shaped heads on each of their five spokes. It left a line of diamond-shaped depressions in its wake as it was pulled behind a plow or disk.
Sunflower introduced the first flexible tillage tool, a 3-section stubble mulch blade plow, in 1961. Its flexibility allowed the plow to hug the terrain on terraces and contours in the fields. The company later offered other models of flexible equipment for sale, including a chisel plow (1967) and an offset disk (1968). These products were followed in the mid-1970s by a unique, double-offset, 4-section disk with side-to-side and front-to-rear flexibility. Sunflower patented the 4-section disk in 1975.
In 1976 Sunflower was acquired by SOS Consolidated, which became Core Industries two years later. Sunflower first entered the international market in 1977 when it began to export blade plows and chisels to Australia.
The company continued to grow its product lines with the additions of field cultivators and land finishers, as well as new types of blade plows from nearby acquisitions such as Flex-King (1986) and grain drill manufacturer Richardson Manufacturing Company (1987).
In 1993, Sunflower added no-till products by purchasing the Best Grain Drill line from Best Manufacturing. After its parent company was acquired by United Dominion Industries in 1997, Sunflower purchased the A&L grain cart business from Parham Industries (1998) and Richardton Dump Wagons (2001). Agco acquired Sunflower in November 2002 and made the brand part of its planter and tillage division.
Sunflower manufactures tillage equipment including chisel plows, vertical tillage, disk harrows, primary tillage implements, field cultivators, fallow tillage tools, strip tillage equipment, land finishers, and in-line rippers for sale. Sunflower also makes seeding equipment such as air drills, air carts, and grain drills.
Sunflower Till Control, available on certain models, allows the operator to set tillage depth and implement level and make adjustments from inside the cab. The system’s animated graphics help the operator calibrate the tillage tool and activate the tiller’s work lighting as needed. Sunflower Till Control also maintains tillage depth and maps each field as it logs hours and acres worked and displays maintenance reminders.
You’ll find a varied selection of Sunflower farm equipment for sale at TractorHouse.com. Popular models include 1435-series disks, 5055-series field cultivators, 6333-series mulch finishers, 4511-series rippers, 9435-series grain drills, and 6631-series vertical tillage systems.
