    About New Leader

    New Leader LG4000G4

New Leader is a leading manufacturer of crop nutrient applicators for spreading fertilizer, lime, compost, and micro-nutrients for corn, wheat, soybeans, cotton, potato, and other crops. The company has OEM partnerships with AGCO, Case IH, GVM, John Deere, and RBR Enterprise and credits such partnerships as helping it manufacture products that are used globally. The company is a brand of New Leader Manufacturing, formerly known as Highway Equipment Company, which also owns the Hi-Way brand of deicing spreaders, multipurpose dump bodies, pre-wet systems, and other road-maintenance equipment. Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, New Leader Manufacturing celebrated its 80th anniversary in January 2019.

    New Leader Spreaders

New Leader’s crop nutrient spreaders are organized according to OEM partner, as well as into G5 Spinner, G4 Edge Spinner, G4 Spinner Series, and Compost Spreaders categories. The NL5000 G5 variable dry rate nutrient applicator includes such features as patented 16-section swath width control technology that automatically shifts the spinner assembly and leverages conveyor-speed adjustments to help reduce overlap, cut nutrient waste, and enhance nutrient placement. Elsewhere, New Leader claims its New Leader G4 Spinner spreader’s wide, consistent spread pattern and ability to apply four products in one pass revolutionized the crop-nutrient application industry.

    New Leader Grows Up

Roy J. Gaddis founded the Highway Equipment Company in 1939 to produce crop nutrient applicators and de-icing spreaders. New Leader notes that the company was operational during such industry notable events as the U.S. fertilizer industry transforming into a retail operation, the industry demanding greater precision from broadcast spinner spreaders, and when the 4R approach to nutrient stewardship (right fertilizer, right rate, right time, and right place) took hold. More recently, New Leader released its G4 spinner assembly in 2000, moved to a new 50-acre (20.2-hectare) location in Cedar Rapids in 2002, released the NL5000 G5 in 2017, and opened its first international facility in 2018 in Brazil. Also in 2018, the company finished construction on a 32,000-square-foot testing facility.
