Read More (About Mulch Finishers)Mulch finishers, sometimes referred to as “soil,” “one-pass,” or “land finishers,” are secondary tillage machines equipped with one or more rows of disks followed by field cultivator shanks and a finishing attachment.
This configuration saves farmers time, fuel and labor costs, and more by allowing them to disk, cultivate, and level, or finish, the soil in a single pass. Mulch finishers are also a fit for reduced- and no-till farming because they leave crop residue in the soil. With the field and seedbed prepared, the farmer can move on to planting.
John Deere is a major manufacturer of mulch finishers, and its 2330 range offers working widths ranging from 21.75 up to 56.25 feet (6.6 to 17.1 meters), depending on whether you choose a three- or five-section configuration. Regardless of the width, the 2330 has a maximum operating depth of 6 inches (15.2 centimeters), a speed range of between 6 and 10 mph (9.7 to 16 km/h), and an underframe clearance of 24 in. (61 cm).
Deere also designed this series with hydraulically adjustable rolling baskets and staggered tandem wheels that prevent residue buildup. They also feature a rear telescoping hitch rating of 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms). In terms of horsepower, this mulch finisher requires between 10 and 14 horsepower per foot (24.5 and 34.2 kilowatts per meter). Its predecessor is the John Deere 2310, which you can find for sale on this site along with the John Deere 726 and other models.
Sunflower is another popular mulch finisher brand. The Sunflower 6333 Land Finisher, which comes in working widths from 21.75 to 36.75 ft (11.2 m). Depending on the exact configuration, the 6333 weighs between 12,250 and 17,290 lbs (5,557 and 7,843 kg) and requires 8 to 10 hp/ft (19.6 to 24.5 kW/m). Some mulch finishers in the larger 6000 Series also feature split-wing systems that allow 37-ft (11.3 m) or wider units to fold small enough to fit through a 14-foot (4.3-meter)-high door, Sunflower says.
One final example is the Landoll Tilloll 875/877 series, available in working widths ranging from 10.5 and 40 ft (3.2 and 12.2 m) and weighing in from 5,059 up to 18,800 lbs (2,295 to 8,528 kg). One standout Tilloll feature is a spray shield located just behind the disks that knocks down the soil, resulting in a smoother surface.
