    About Massey Ferguson Tractors

The origins of the Massey Ferguson brand date back to 1847, when Daniel Massey founded Newcastle Foundry and Machine Manufacturing in Newcastle, Ontario. In 1891, Massey joined forces with Harris, another Canadian equipment manufacturer, to form Massey-Harris. The 1938 Massey-Harris No 20, said to be the world’s first commercially viable self-propelled combine harvester, is just one of the company’s many notable contributions to agricultural technology. In 1953, the company merged with Ferguson, and the Massey Ferguson brand was established.

    General Overview

AGCO, which purchased the production rights to Massey Ferguson in 1995, continues to offer a full line of Massey Ferguson tractors. The selection ranges from the sub-compact, 24-horsepower (18-kilowatt) GC1700 to Massey Ferguson’s compact, utility, mid-range, and high-horsepower models.

    Sub-Compact, Compact & Utility

Massey Ferguson manufactures a variety of tractors designed for acreage owners, municipality work, livestock producers, landscapers, hobby farmers, and others seeking an economical option. The sub-compact GC1700, for example, can work with implements like a backhoe, bucket, mowing deck, or snow blower to provide effective, all-around capabilities from a small, maneuverable tractor.

The company’s compact tractors feature engines rated from 24.8 to 60.3 HP (18.5 to 45 kW) with intuitive controls designed for beginning operators. And depending on the model, compact Massey Ferguson tractors can use attachments from the company’s lines of FL Series loaders and BH and CB backhoes. In addition, a third-function control enables the use of skid-steer attachments and 4-in-1 buckets.

Models in Massey Ferguson’s utility tractor lineup offer more power than its sub-compact and compact models. As of this writing, the utility models feature fuel-efficient Tier 4 Final engines rated between 70 to 100 HP (52 to 74.5 kW). And with power take-off (PTO) power from 57 to 88 HP (42.5 to 65.5 kW), Massey Ferguson’s utility tractors can accommodate loader work, hay production, mowing, and other similar jobs around the farm.

    Mid-Range

Massey Ferguson offers multiple tractor series with horsepower ratings between 100 and 180 HP (74.5 to 134 kW), including the MF 5700, MF 5S, MF 6700, and MF 6S series. The multipurpose tractors are designed to meet the needs of arable and dairy farmers and ranchers. For example, MF 6S tractors have a maximum lift capacity of 21,164 pounds (9,600 kilograms) and a gross vehicle weight of up to 27,558 lbs (12,500 kg). Many models in Massey Ferguson’s Mid-Range class feature the Datatronic 5 terminal, a customizable digital dashboard that gives operators easy access to settings for hydraulics, transmission, and the engine. These tractors blend ample power ratings with comparatively compact design; the 5S, for instance, has an 8.36-foot (2.5-meter) wheelbase and a 13-ft (4-m) turning radius.

    High Horsepower

With high-profile series like the MF 7700 S, MF 7S, MF 8700 S, and MF 8S, Massey Ferguson’s high-horsepower tractors provide the performance and reliability to tackle commercial row crop farming and other large-scale farming applications. Massey Ferguson’s 7S Series includes tractors ranging from 155 to 210 HP (115.5 to 156 kW) with model names matching their power output, from the MF 7S.155 to the MF 7S.210. High-performance 8S tractors amp up the power with 7.4-liter Tier 4 Final AGCO Power engines rated for 205 to 265 HP (153 to 198 kW), with an extra 5% power boost from Massey Ferguson’s Engine Power Management (EPM) technology.
