    About Kubota Tractors

Kubota manufactures an array of agricultural, residential, and commercial tractors, with some overlap among the three applications. Its stable of models ranges from 17 to 200 horsepower (13 to 149 kilowatts). Easily recognizable by their bright orange bodies and wheels, Kubota tractors provide reliable service to farms, acreages, vineyards, and more.

    Current Series

Kubota’s agricultural tractor family leads off with the 128- to 168-HP (95- to 125-kW) M7 Series Gen 2 and 180- to 200-HP (134- to 149-kW) M8 Series. The four-wheel-drive, cab-style tractors come with the power take-off (PTO), rear remotes, and three-point linkage one would expect. The M7 and M8 are both available with a powershift transmission, with a creep option or continuously variable transmission (CVT) available for the M7.

The 105- to 133-HP (78- to 99-kW) M6 Series of Kubota utility tractors includes a 114-HP (85-kW) M6S economy version. All are available in 2WD and 4WD editions. The M6 Series comes with a 24F/24R Intelli-Shift transmission with push-button shifting on the range lever. One of its models, the M6-141, has an optional front axle suspension. On the budget side, the M6S is attractive to municipalities as well as farmers and ranchers. Its transmission is either a 16-speed Swing-Shift or 32-speed Swing-Shift Plus with a “de-clutch” button on the shift handle for shifting without the foot pedal.

The M4 and M5 Series Kubotas cover the 65- to 73-HP (48- to 54-kW) and 93- to 106-HP (69- to 79-kW) segments, respectively. They are ideal for small hay and cattle operations, as well as for hobby farms. Both series are available with loaders, creep drive, and a 12F/12R transmission, but the M5 adds 2WD drive and ROPS options as well as 8F/8R and 24F/24R transmission options.

Specialty agriculture tractors from Kubota include the 100-HP (75-kW) M Low Profile, the 73- to 108-HP (54- to 80-kW) M Narrow Series for vineyards, and the 104-HP (78-kW), High Clearance M6H suitable for fruit and vegetable row crop applications.

Kubota’s commercial and residential series tractors include the sub-compact BX Series; the compact B01, LX, Standard L, Grand L60, and L60LE Series; and the MX Series, M60 Series (M6060 / M7060), and M5660SU model utility tractors.

    History

Kubota was established in 1890 as Oide Foundry, which made metal castings but soon branched out into other products. In 1922, the company made its first horizontal, liquid-cooled kerosene engine for agricultural applications.

Kubota developed its first tractor, the Type T15 Dry-Field Farming Rider Driven Tractor, in 1960, followed by the Type L15R Rice Field Farming Tractor for paddy work in 1962.

Kubota’s introductory tractor to the United States was the L200 in 1969. The 21-HP (16-kW) compact model, being smaller and more agile than typical American tractors, found its niche and started the iconic Kubota L Series.

Four-wheel drive appeared in the manufacturer’s Ultra-Compact 4-Wheel Drive Tractor B6000 (“Bulltra”) in 1971. The following year, the company founded Kubota Tractor Corporation in the United States. The compact B Series arrived in the mid-1970s with four-wheel drive and a two-cylinder diesel engine. Smaller than Kubota’s L Series, the B Series received a hydrostatic transmission in the later part of the decade.

Kubota’s “Sunshine Monroematic” Tractor (1981) used an electronic control system and hydraulics to automatically keep tillers and other implements level on uneven ground. The company developed fuel-efficient tractors in 1983 that could operate rear-mounted snow plows and other attachments while traveling in reverse. Its microcomputer-controlled “Auto Monroematic” system debuted the same year along with the Bi-Speed Turn feature intended to minimize damage to the field’s headlands as a tractor made a U-turn. In 1984, Kubota marked the production of its 1 millionth tractor.

The BX Series of sub-compact tractors, new in 2000, addressed the needs of the residential sector. Kubota built a U.S. production plant for compact models in 2013. Its B01 Series (2019) is intended for lawn care, light construction, and landscaping, while its LX Series of compact tractors (2020) aims for rural residential and large estate and commercial applications.
