    About John Deere 9400 Combines

Along with the larger 9500 and 9600 combine models, John Deere released the John Deere 9400 self-propelled combine in 1989 as part of a new line of entirely redesigned Maximizer series walker models. The 9400, 9500, and 9600 replaced the 6620, 7720, and 8820 models, respectively.

Notably, the John Deere 9400, 9500, and 9600 would debut with a front-center located cab that offered more comforts and operator commands and a rear-mounted diesel engine. The models were later upgraded with the 9410, 9510, and 9610 with what were generally regarded as mostly minor upgrades. John Deere would later introduce 50 series Maximizer models in 1999, complete with the introduction of its single-tine separation (STS) system, which marked Deere’s move toward implementing rotary combine technology.

    A Rich Heritage

Few companies can claim to have made as big of impact on the agriculture sector as John Deere. The company released its first combine model in the late 1920s with the No. 2, a 35-horsepower model that the company would follow up with the smaller No. 1 combine. Deere would introduce its hillside harvesting technology for combines in the 1930s, allowing farmers to more effectively use the machines for hillside harvesting tasks.

The company’s first self-propelled combine model came in the mid-1940s with the 55 model, considered the first machine to position the cab at the combine’s center. John Deere would combine these technologies and others to produce the Maximizer 9000 Series in the late 1980s. The company would release its 500,000th self-propelled combine in 2010.

    A Stream Of Upgrades

Before ending production of the 9400 combine in 1997 (the same year that John Deere would celebrate its 50th anniversary of producing self-propelled combines), the company would release a series of upgrades and new features for the 9400 and subsequent models. These included aesthetic changes, incremental horsepower improvements, cab-oriented ergonomics, a greater range of options for grain handling, replacing steel lines with hoses, and introducing a tracked model (the 9400T).

If you’re in search of John Deere farm equipment, TractorHouse.com has thousands of new and used John Deere harvesters for sale, including John Deere 9400 combines.
