Geringhoff has been in business since 1880, when founder Carl Geringhoff started building threshing machines and corn and grain drying machines with the goal of making harvest easier, according to the company. The German-based company built its first single-row harvester in 1956 and shortly thereafter placed a header on a utility vehicle and combined it with a shelling system into a self-propelled corn harvesting system, the company notes.

Geringhoff is known for manufacturing headers for harvesting corn, wheat, milo, soybeans, canola, sunflower, and small grains under model names such as NorthStar Elite, Rota Disc Elite, Patriot, Horizon Elite, Freedom, Truflex, and MiloStar. The headers can accommodate row widths from 15 to 40 inches, with folding models available. Many Geringhoff headers are based on some of the same technology the manufacturer brought to the industry in 1977 with its PC header that offered lower horsepower demands, faster travel speeds, and superior shredding compared to existing headers on the market. Rota Disc technology, first introduced by Geringhoff in 1997, slices stalks at a 25-degree angle and vertically shreds them for faster decay.

In 2012, Geringhoff opened an American manufacturing facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota, offering the first American-built Geringhoff headers for sale. Geringhoff notes that its MiloStar milo header, introduced in 2013, is the first header designed exclusively for harvesting grain sorghum, or milo.
