    About Claas

Claas is a family-owned agriculture equipment manufacturer with headquarters in Harsewinkel, Germany, that operates more than 10 manufacturing facilities worldwide. The company’s North American headquarters are in Omaha, Nebraska, as is an assembly plant for Lexion combine harvesters that Claas sells throughout North America.

    Claas Lexion 8700 Combine

August Claas founded the company in 1913 on the Claas family farm, where he and his brothers Bernhard, Franz, and Theo began producing straw binders featuring an improved knotter, for which August filed his first patent in 1921. Claas says the knotter set the stage for the company’s future growth, which today manufactures expansive lines of tractors, combine and forage harvesters and harvester heads, and hay and forage equipment including mowers and mower conditioners, rakes and tedders, and round and large square balers.

    Claas Through The Years

Claas started working on combine prototypes in 1930, eventually introducing a “mower-thresher-binder” in 1936 as the first combine harvester designed expressly for use in harvesting grain under European harvesting conditions. In 1952, Class unveiled the Hercules, its first self-propelled combine.

The company entered the forage harvesting equipment market in 1969 and began manufacturing the high-performance Jaguar 60 SF self-propelled forage harvester in 1973. With the release of the Jaguar 960 Terra Trac decades later, Claas became the first manufacturer to sell a forage harvester with a track roller unit, thus providing excellent soil protection in all harvesting conditions.

Although August Claas started developing a tractor-like machine in the 1950s, it wasn’t until 2003 when Claas acquired a majority stake in Renault Agriculture that it officially added tractors to its product lineup. Today Class manufactures the Xerion 4000-5000 series of 435- to 530-horsepower (320- to 390-kilowatt) tractors, the Axion 920-960 series of 320- to 440-HP (235- to 324-kW) models, and the Axion 810-880 series of 200- to 285-HP (147- to 210-kW) tractors.

    Claas Product Lines

Claas also manufactures headers for its Lexion and Trion combines and Jaguar forage harvesters, all available in standard and Terra Trac configurations. The company’s hay and forage equipment catalog includes Variant variable-chamber and Rollant fixed-chamber round balers and the Quadrant 5300 Evolution, a large square baler for silage and dry crops. Claas also sells rear, front, and triple Disco mowers, as well as Volto compact and large tedders and Liner rakes in single- and 4-rotor and side- and center-delivery versions.

The ag equipment company also offers precision farming technologies including Cebis touchscreens; telematics, steering, and mapping solutions; and farm management systems. Claas’ DataConnect cloud-to-cloud solution facilitates real-time telemetry for an operation’s entire machinery fleet. The Claas Electronic Machine Optimization System (CEMOS) for tractors, combines, and forage harvesters collects machine-wide data and assists operators in optimizing their performance.
