    About Tenders

Fertilizer tenders generally fall into one of three subcategories: anhydrous, dry, and liquid tenders. Although there are numerous differences between the types beyond the form of fertilizer they’re designed to handle, they all serve the primary function of transporting fertilizer to the field in order to restock growers’ applicators. This enables growers to stay in the field and eliminate the downtime they’d otherwise experience by having to return to the farm or a fertilizer plant to reload. Tenders’ time-saving and efficiency-producing abilities have become increasingly important in recent years, as the time frames for carrying out applications grows shorter in growing regions around the world.

Brehmer 24-Foot Overhead Discharge Dry Fertilizer Tender

    Features

The consolidation of many fertilizer plants has increased the distance some growers must travel to get to the plant nearest them. As such, key tender features include quick and secure filling, fast discharge speeds, and greater storage capacity. Dry and liquid tenders, in particular, have seen many feature upgrades in recent years. From connected, remote-controlled functions and onboard weighing systems to electric hose reels, taller augers, and multiple compartments, dry and liquid tender manufacturers continue to develop machines to meet the growing demands of farmers. Anhydrous tenders haul pressurized tanks with a variety of gauges and safety relief vales to let farmers easily and safely haul anhydrous ammonia into the field to refill their applicators’ tanks.

    Dry & Liquid Design

Both dry and liquid tender types are available in truck- and trailer-mounted models, with the latter including gooseneck, nurse, semi-trailer, tank, and other trailer types. Liquid tenders might carry one or more tanks for increased capacity or for transporting different liquid nutrients. Dry tenders might also feature separate hoppers to handle fertilizer and seed to optimize planting efficiency. Some manufacturers have done away with the need to choose between dry and liquid tenders by releasing tenders that can accommodate both dry and liquid fertilizer, as well as seed and water.

    Anhydrous Tenders

Anhydrous tenders feature a heavy-duty assembly and running gear to accommodate anhydrous ammonia tanks, which often have capacities between 1,000 and 3,000 gallons. Manufacturers might also design their anhydrous tenders for specific applications, including models featuring extra ground clearance, wider tires to minimize topsoil disturbance, four-wheel steering, or a low-profile design.
