Tedders move crops and forage through a set of spinning rotors, which both fluff up and spread out the cut materials to speed up the curing process and dry out the forage more evenly. In some cases, their more aggressive action results in greater leaf loss; as such, tedders tend to be used more often on grasses than for legume crops like alfalfa or clover. Farmers typically use a tedder with wetter forage, as tedding performed when the crop is dry or the leaves are brittle can also create leaf loss.

Tedders are powered by a tractor’s PTO, but because tedders don’t require a great deal of horsepower, the majority of tractors are capable of operating a tedder. Tedders are available in several working widths to suit your application, with manufacturers often supporting ranges from 10 feet to 30 feet.
