    About Snowmobiles

Snowmobiles, or “snow machines,” are vehicles designed for snowy and icy terrain that would be much more difficult to traverse with an ATV, motorcycle, or other vehicle. Rear tracks propel the snowmobile forward, while the front skis connect to a handlebar for steering.

Though commonly used for recreation or racing, people who live in areas with heavy snowfall also use snowmobiles as work vehicles. When conditions are too icy for ATVs and trucks, snowmobiles navigate with ease. These vehicles enable farmers and ranchers to access remote areas on their property to haul supplies and feed, check on livestock, check fence lines, and more.

There are several snowmobile subtypes that, despite having many similarities, are designed with some key differences. For example, some snowmobiles are better at running on designated, clearly marked trails, while others are built for off-trail riding on more demanding terrain.

    Trail Snowmobiles

Trail snowmobiles, which operate best on smooth, even terrain, are usually a good choice for less-experienced riders. Compared to powerful performance models, trail models tend to be more affordable.

    Performance Snowmobiles

Performance snowmobiles feature high-horsepower engines and advanced suspension systems to support speeds up to and exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h). Performance snowmobiles prioritize speed, handling, and power over the comfort and luxury features found in touring models. These sleds excel in delivering high-performance experiences.

    Touring Snowmobiles

Touring snowmobiles provide the foundation for a longer, more comfortable ride. Often built for two riders, touring models offer enhanced stability and larger fuel tanks for a long day in the snow.

    Mountain Snowmobiles

Mountain snowmobiles navigate the steeper, rougher, higher, and more demanding terrain posed by mountain riding, including deep snow, tight tunnels, and steep ascents and descents. These sleek, highly efficient machines feature specially designed running boards, suspensions, and shocks to facilitate quick lifts out of snow and higher clearance.

    Utility Snowmobiles

Designed to help you get the job done, utility snowmobiles are handy for hauling and towing cargo, equipment, and tools across challenging terrain. These machines have longer frames and wider tracks for better stability on trails and in heavy snow.

    Crossover Snowmobiles

Crossover snowmobiles are highly versatile machines that run well on trails and rough terrain. Often used to tow work sleds and toboggans, crossover models have long tracks for improved performance in deeper snow. Crossover models often have longer seats built to comfortably accommodate one or two riders and may offer a backrest and hand grips for the passenger.

    Find The Right Snowmobile

Arctic Cat, Polaris, and Ski-Doo are among the most popular snowmobile manufacturers. Each offers a wide array of models designed for diverse kinds of riders, from folks who want to take a quick joy ride to those who need a snowmobile to survive and work in harsh climates.
