Read More (About International)The International brand was born in 1902 when five equipment manufacturers—McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, Deering Harvester Company, Milwaukee, Plano, Warder, Bushnell, and Glessner—merged to form the International Harvester Company. However, its roots go further back, all the way to the 1830s and 1840s, when Cyrus McCormick developed and patented a horse-drawn reaper. In addition to its agricultural equipment line, International has been involved in several other industries, including trucking and construction equipment.
Starting in the early 1900s, International offered several large gasoline-powered farm tractors for sale under the Mogul and Titan model families. It began selling model 10-20 and model 15-30 tractors and its first combine harvester in 1915.
The first Farmall tractor, introduced in 1923, helped set industry standards and became International’s most famous brand. Farmall tractors were the world’s first row-crop tractors, with implements for plowing, cultivating, and harvesting. In 1932, the Farmall F-20 became the first tractor to implement standard foot-to-floor pedal control with a left-foot clutch and two right-foot brakes. The tractors were painted a deep blue-grey until 1936, when International switched to its iconic Farmall Harvester Red #50.
In 1939, International moved to its letter-series Farmall tractors, producing A, B, BN, C, H, M, MD, and other models until 1954, when the company switched to numbers, offering its Hundred-, 66-, 86-, 50-, and 30-series tractors, along with other models since then. International dropped the Farmall name in 1973. In 1977, International released the Axial-Flow rotary combine. With the Sentry computer monitoring system, International Harvester became one of the first manufacturers to add a computer to a farm tractor.
Case acquired International Harvester in 1985, resulting in the Case IH line of agricultural equipment that is still sold today, including the Farmall tractor brand, which the company reintroduced in 2003. Case IH merged with New Holland in 1999 to form CNH Global N.V., which became CNH Industrial N.V. following a merger with Fiat Industrial S.p.A. In addition to the Farmall brand, Case IH also maintains International’s Axial-Flow combines.
