Read More (About Grain Vacs)Grain vacs, sometimes referred to as suction blowers and pneumatic conveyors, are portable or stationary, high-capacity farm machines able to transport up to tens of thousands of bushels of grain, seed, feed, and other materials per hour, depending on the model.
Used in place of or in conjunction with augers, belt conveyors, sweeps, and shovels, grain vacs greatly reduce the manual labor that’s otherwise required to move grain. That could mean cleaning up grain spills or transporting grain from a grain pile to truck, truck to bin, or to and from another form of storage. Due to the nature in which these machines push or pull air to move grain, grain vacs are generally considered to handle grain and seed with greater care than some alternatives.
Manufacturers often offer additional accessories and attachments for grain vacs, such as suction heads, hoses, nozzles, piping, and other components, which allow the machine to adapt to specific applications, tackle different grain capacities, or extend the distance grain can be moved. Some models also include guard systems that help extend the life of the blower by separating foreign materials from the grain while moving it.
Grain vacs may also make quicker and more efficient work of moving grain. With its VR technology, for example, REM’s VR12 grain vac model can move 9,000 to 10,000 bushels per hour when drawing power from a tractor outputting 130 horsepower (kilowatts). In addition to PTO-driven models, diesel- and electrical-powered grain vac models are also available.
Although new grain vacs can be more expensive than other methods used to convey grain, experts agree that they also provide valuable health- and safety-related benefits that make them attractive choices. For example, grain vacs are considered to generate far less unhealthy dust, especially in comparison to sweeps and shoveling. However, one issue with grain vacs is that due to the vast amount of airflow, they may produce a great deal of noise. As such, some manufacturers have worked to introduce models that reduce noise levels.
You will find a large selection of new and used grain vacs for sale at TractorHouse.com, including popular models from such brands as Brandt, Conveyair, Handlair, Kongskilde, REM, and Walinga.
