    About Livestock Gates & Panels

Livestock gates and panels are metal farm gates and temporary fence panels consisting of five to seven horizontal metal bars, often made of steel, joined together with three to five vertical bars. Lightweight versions are constructed from tube steel, while others are made with solid bars for greater durability.

    Special Features

Despite the relative simplicity of their design, livestock gates do have special features to increase durability and security. Some manufacturers use mitered joints and arc welding for a better fit and stronger, permanent hold. A Z-bar vertical beam provides stronger support to crossbars and high-tensile steel increases durability. Locks are designed with features such as the need to twist or the ability to add a padlock to prevent livestock from accidentally opening the gate.

    Panel Characteristics

Livestock panels are constructed similarly to gates and are versatile enough to fill many roles around a farm or ranch, but are primarily used to make temporary corrals and pens as needed in pastures and elsewhere. Some panel manufacturers even offer panel and gate carts that can be used to quickly and easily transport enough panels to construct an ad hoc corral, and can be used for convenient storage after deconstruction.

    Picking A Gate

When looking for livestock gates, consider the size of your operation, the type of stock you’ll be enclosing, and how many animals you’ll need to enclose. Larger operations and larger animals require wider gates to move livestock and machinery through. Other considerations include whether you need the gate to open manually or automatically, and whether the panels and gate will be installed permanently or used for temporary, portable pens.

Find The Right Livestock Gates & Panels

You’ll find a large selection of new and used livestock gates and panels from manufacturers such as Landquip, Linn Post & Pipe, Sioux Steel, and others for sale every day on TractorHouse.com.
