Specializing in niche markets such as manure-handling equipment, the Mountain Lake, Minnesota-based Balzer manufactures horizontal and vertical slurry pumps, top-fill slurry tanks, direct injection systems, portable storage systems, lagoon pumps and props, V-6 and V-8 pumps, row-crop application systems, semi-tankers, and the Blazer Eliminator Boom Tank. The company also manufactures grain carts and cotton, corn, specialty crop, and orchard and vineyard shredders, and maintains a 9,600-square-foot, climate-controlled storage area for its repair parts.

Abe Balzer founded the company in the late 1940s in his garage in Windom, Minnesota, with one employee. Initially starting out producing power boxes, Balzer moved to Mountain Lake in 1947. After a fire destroyed the company’s facilities in 1964, Balzer doubled its facility space post-fire. Through the 1980s, the company introduced an auger mixer box, 12-ton spreader, liquid manure tanks, flail shredders, and vertical and horizontal slurry pumps. Production of large-capacity grain carts, hose reels, V-6 pumps, and more started in the 2000s.

Ranging in capacity from 4,300 to 9,500 gallons, Balzer’s vacuum tank lineup includes tandem- and tridem-axle models in round and narrow and round barrel options. The Eliminator Boom Tank, meanwhile, is available in 6,800- to 9,500-gallon sizes with included hydraulic boom kit. Elsewhere, the company’s 22,500-gallon Frac Tank provides portable storage of liquid manure products, while the Field Floater 5 and Field Floater 6 grain carts top out at 2,000- and 2,200-bushel capacities, respectively, with the Floater 5 providing an unload rate of 1,090 bushels per minute. Currently employing about 100 people, Balzer recently introduced a web portal to provide its dealerships 24/7 online access to parts catalogs, manuals, assembly instructions, and other information.
