Headquartered in Äänekoski, Finland, Valtra manufactures multiple series of award-winning tractors well-suited for use in farming, forestry, municipal and airport maintenance, construction, and other applications. 

The company’s tractors draw on an extensive heritage that includes aspects of Finland’s Valmet and Sweden’s Volvo BM tractor lines. Although Valtra claims to be the only tractor manufacturer in the Nordic region, it has also produced tractors in Brazil since 1960. Valtra tractors are sold in more than 75 countries worldwide.

Valtra Company History

Valtra began manufacturing tractors in 1951 with the introduction of the Valmet 15, or the A-model. The company’s roots, however, date to 1832, when Theofron Munktell set up an engineering workshop in Sweden to develop industrial machinery. Valtra says the 30-40 tractor Munktell launched in 1913 as Sweden’s first tractor is the forerunner of all Valtra tractors since.

Valtra introduced its first diesel-powered Valmet tractor, the model 33D, in 1956. In 1960, the company launched a factory in Brazil and built the first 40-horsepower (30-kilowatt) Valmet 360 D tractors that same year. In 1969, Valtra unveiled the model 1100, the world’s first tractor with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

A year after purchasing Volvo Tractors in 1979, Valtra introduced the world’s first turbocharged 3-cylinder tractor engine, the model 602 Turbo. The manufacturer also introduced the first Comprex pressure wave supercharger that year with the launch of the model 1203. In 2005, Valtra says its N series became the world’s only tractor with a 4.8-liter engine rated for 160 HP (118 kW).

In 2004, Agco acquired Valtra, then known as Valmet and owned by the Kone Corporation, which had purchased Valtra’s parent company, Partek Corporation, in 2002.

Valtra Tractors

Valtra produces tractors in seven series that range in rated power from 75 to 405 HP (55 to 298 kW). The F Series includes narrow, compact specialty models for use on fruit farms and vineyards. The fifth-generation A series boasts seven compact models, while the award-winning G series comprises utility models designed for everyday farming needs. The fifth-generation N series of multifunction tractors and the T series, which includes models that combine smart technologies with the power of 6-cylinder engines, are also award winners.

The S series consists of tractors designed for demanding tasks and provides features such as the TwinTrac reverse-drive system. Released in 2022, the all-new Q series, nicknamed “The Beast,” has won numerous awards, including a Red Dot Award: Product Design honor and a 2023 Farm Machine Jury Award. Series models include 230- to 305-HP (169 to 224 kW) tractors.

Technologies

Valtra tractors are available with an impressive array of components and precision farming technologies. SmartTouch combines a 9-inch touchscreen with a multifunction lever, numerous buttons, a hydraulics joystick, and an armrest to provide operators with intuitive, comfortable control of all the tractor’s various functions.

Precision farming technologies include the Valtra Guide auto-guidance solution, Valtra Section Control, and Variable Rate Control. TaskDoc gives farmers access to critical data anytime, anywhere via their farm management systems, while Valtra Connect is a telemetry solution that records tractor activity and GPS movements.
