    About Steyr

Steyr is an Austrian manufacturer of multiple series of agricultural and municipal tractors that are popular in Europe and are enjoying a growing presence in North America. In 2022, Steyr celebrated its 75th anniversary; the company’s lineup now includes tractors that range from 80 to 300 horsepower (60 to 224 kilowatts), all of which sport the brand’s red and white colors. Steyr’s operations were once based in Steyr, Austria, but were moved in 1974 to nearby St. Valentin. In 1996, Case Corporation, then the parent company of Case IH, acquired Steyr’s agriculture equipment division. Steyr and Case IH are now both CNH Industrial-owned brands, and share a European headquarters in St. Valentin.

    Steyr 6240 Absolut CVT

    Made In Austria

A year after introducing its first tractor, the green Type 180, Steyr began producing tractor implements. By 1950, it was making tractors with hydraulic hitches. In 1952, it unveiled the Type 280 for larger farm operations. Front loader production followed in 1963. In 1983, narrow-track Steyr tractors were introduced for vineyard, orchard, and plantation use.

In 1999, Steyr’s first tractors equipped with continuous variable transmissions (CVTs) debuted, complete with an S-Tronic system that automatically regulated engine and transmission functionality through a Multicontroller or accelerator pedal. Steyr’s 40,000th tractor with a CVT rolled out of the factory in 2016.

    Steyr Tractors Up Close

Steyr’s tractor lineup includes the Absolut CVT, Expert CVT, Impuls CVT, Kompakt Serie, Multi, Profi, and Terrus CVT series. The three-model, award-winning Terrus CVT is Steyr’s flagship tractor line, and the Kompakt Serie and Multi are its bestsellers. Terrus CVT models feature Stage V-compliant FPT engines, an S-Control CVT with 40 forward and 50 reverse gears, and a four-pillar panorama cab with a low 66-decibel noise level. The tractors also use Steyr S-Tech precision farming technologies like S-GUIDE automated steering, S-TURN II automated turning, ISOBUS III and Easy-Tronic II headland management, and S-FLEET telematics.

The Multi and Kompakt Serie are designed for all-around use, and can take on grassland and baling, livestock, transport, and soil and crop preparation tasks. The Multi is an “Alpine Specialist” that includes 100- to 120-HP (74.5- to 89.5-kW) models, each with a low center of gravity and a short wheelbase, making them well-suited to working on hilly terrain. The Kompakt Serie includes Kompakt and Kompakt S variants that range from 80- to 120-HP power options. The lightweight, compact models stand less than 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) high, but Steyr says they provide the reliability, spacious work environment, and power of larger tractors.

    The Steyr Konzept

In 2019, Steyr unveiled the award-winning Steyr Konzept, a concept tractor it developed in conjunction with FPT, another CNH Industrial-owned brand. The Konzept incorporated a number of cutting-edge technologies and was built as a look at what future tractor development might entail. The heart of the project was a modular hybrid electric drive combining a combustion engine, a generator, and individually controllable electric motors to deliver energy where needed. In 2022, Steyr presented a Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept that’s focused on the potential of electric drive systems to power a lightweight, high-horsepower tractor that provides various fuel-consumption and field performance benefits.
