Hesston Manufacturing was founded in 1947 by Lyle E. Yost, who also happened to be the inventor of the unloading auger. The company was operated independently until 1977 when Fiat Trattori purchased a controlling stake in 1977 before buying it outright in 1987. Roughly 14 years later, Hesston was sold to AGCO, and from then on the company has been listed as being part of Massey Ferguson.

Hesston made the first commercially available self-propelled windrower in 1955. Today the company sells the WR9800 Series of windrowers and swathers, the 2200 Series of large square balers, and the 1800 Series small square balers, as well as the 1700 Series of economy round balers and the 2900 Series of round balers.

For mowing and conditioning, the company sells DM Series triple mowers and 1300 Series disc mower conditioners, plus a few different lines of wheel rakes, rotary rakes, and tedders. Hesston also manufactures the 3700 Series of manure spreaders that offer from 100 to 220 HP and operating capacities ranging from 175 to 660 bushels, depending on which of the 14 different models and three configurations you choose.
