RentSelf-propelled and pull-type sprayers are great for wide-open fields but they aren’t so good for precision spraying along fence lines, around ponds, or in ditches—that’s where three-point/mounted sprayers shine.
Read More (About 3-Point/Mounted Sprayers)Among the various equipment that growers around the world use to protect billions of acres of crops each year are three-point/mounted sprayers, also sometimes referred to as ATV sprayers. Along with all-in-one self-propelled sprayers and pull-type sprayers that mount a tank and sprayer components on a trailer, three-point/mounted sprayers make up the three primary types of sprayers available for sale. Three-point/mounted sprayers typically attach to a tractor or ATV using a three-point hitch. The boom may mount to the sprayer itself or under the tractor. Other models are designed to fit into the bed of a utility vehicle.
Unlike self-propelled and pull-type sprayer models designed to apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other chemicals to hundreds of acres of crops in open fields, three-point/mounted sprayers specialize at helping control weeds in more restrictive areas where spot spraying makes more sense. This can include such situations as spraying rows along fence lines, in ditches, and around ponds, as well as spraying in smaller areas such as pastures, orchards, and food plots.
In addition to tank capacities that can range from tens to hundreds of gallons, booms can differ in their lengths, folding abilities, nozzles, and compatibility with sprayer attachments. Features common of sprayers in this category include drainable tanks, narrow transport designs, breakaway booms with hinged sections that can bend on contact with an obstacle and then return to their original position, self-leveling booms, chemical agitation systems, rinse tanks, and the inclusion of a handgun for spot spraying purposes. Other abilities can include monitoring and boom control from the seat and integrated fork points to enable easier loading and unloading. In recent years, manufacturers have begun to place increasing emphasis on safety-related design measures, including improved drift prevention and counterbalanced tanks to place more weight closer to the tractor wheels.
Leading manufacturers of new and used three-point/mounted sprayers include AG Spray Equipment, Demco, Enduraplas, Hardi, John Deere, and Redball.
