Read More (About Utility UTVs)Utility vehicles (UTVs), sometimes called "side-by-sides," are on- and off-road vehicles built to assist in various work-related tasks on farms, golf courses, and other worksites. They differ from all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in a few key ways: While UTVs feature side-by-side seating and can hold as many as six passengers, ATVs situate the passenger behind the rider and typically only carry two. UTVs typically have a steering wheel, pedals, and a cargo box, which makes them well-suited for work on farms, ranches, and similar settings, and some come with such factory-equipped features as rollover protection systems (ROPS), hard-top roofs, windshields, and cab enclosures that add extra layers of safety and make them suitable for all-weather use. UTVs generally fall into one of two subcategories: sport and recreation UTVs (for recreational use, as their name implies) and utility UTVs.
Both utility UTVs and sport and recreation UTVs are designed to operate on nearly any type of terrain. Utility UTVs, however, are built for work applications and generally have lower performance ceilings and are geared more toward hauling and towing than going fast. Utility UTVs typically have engines rated for between 30 and 100 horsepower (22 and 74.5 kilowatts), whereas sport UTVs provide between 40 and 175 HP (30 and 130.5 kW). UTVs with large crew cabs are excellent options for team-oriented jobs, such as landscaping, golf course maintenance, and the like. Utility models are also often equipped with cargo boxes, as opposed to equipment like the heavy-duty shocks and suspensions sport UTVs have for tackling challenging environments at high speeds.
The Polaris RANGER is a popular utility UTV that is available in two-, three-, and four-to-six-seat CREW configurations. The high-end RANGER CREW XP 1000 EPS NorthStar HVAC edition features a 999-cc liquid-cooled engine that produces 82 horsepower (61 kilowatts) of rated engine power. The UTV seats six and has a 1,350-pound (612-kilogram) maximum payload and a 2,500-lb (1,334-kg) towing capacity. The UTV also features a RANGER Pro Shield Cab system complete with heating and air conditioning.
UTVs on TractorHouse.com range in price from less than $1,000 to up to $50,000, giving beginners, professionals, and every rider in between options to fit their needs.
