    About Rotary Forage Headers

John Deere 676 Rotary Forage Header

Ranging from approximately 10 to 30 feet in width, rotary forage headers are designed with a complex, side-by-side arrangement of cutter drums, blades, and choppers to cut and convey crop materials into a forage harvester. By contrast, row crop forage headers (sometimes lumped together with corn headers) are built with long points, also sometimes referred to as “snouts” or “fingers,” that extend between the crop rows and help direct the crop into the header, gather it using belts or chains, and chop the plant. Yet another forage header variant, windrow forage headers, typically support high work rates with large-diameter augers and tine bars to smoothly channel the windrowed crops and avoid plugging the header.

    Row-Independent

Rotary forage headers are offered in a multitude of open designs meant to enhance performance and reliability. Technological innovations like electrically adjustable deck plates, rotary dividers, or angled transfer arms provide headers that can sever standing crops no matter the row orientation. Optional intakes and dividers can also help the headers pick up fallen stalks and crops.

    Header Height

For optimum header positioning, rotary forage headers might feature both manual and automatic header height adjustment controls that adjust the header to the contour of the field. In rolling conditions, for example, a modern rotary forage header might sense when the header is angled too far downward or upward and float the header to the optimal stubble height. The adjustable systems give the rotary forage header more flexibility to handle multiple crops to eliminate the need to purchase extra headers.

    Find The Right Forage Header

You’ll find new and used rotary forage headers for sale on TractorHouse.com from such manufacturers as CLAAS, John Deere, Kemper, New Holland, and others.
