RentLiquid tenders help keep application equipment in the field, providing quick refills and making the most of today’s narrower application windows.
Read More (About Liquid Tenders)Liquid tenders are wagons with tanks (or sometimes just the tank itself) that growers use to transport liquid fertilizer and crop protection products to the field and reload their chemical applicators. As application windows have grown shorter in recent years, liquid tender manufacturers have increased tank capacities to reduce the number of refills needed in order to maximize applicators’ time in the field. Some manufacturers also offer tenders that accommodate both dry and liquid fertilizer, as well as seed and water, to offer farmers even more operational versatility.
Available in truck- and trailer-mounted models, liquid tenders might carry one or more tanks to enhance capacity or deliver multiple liquid nutrients. Trailer-mounted models come in gooseneck, nurse, semi-trailer, and tank, configurations, ensuring that there are options for every size and type of operation. Tank capacities range anywhere from 300 gallons (1135 liters) on small nurse tanks to vertical tanks that hold ten times that amount. Liquid storage tanks are often constructed of polyethylene or stainless-steel. Poly tanks are lighter than steel tanks, allowing for heavy-duty construction (e.g. thicker, more flexible side walls) for enhanced durability. Stainless-steel tanks, on the other hand, can be made to handle low- or high-temperature applications where poly tanks might otherwise be compromised.
Newer liquid fertilizer tenders are designed for ease of use, to the point where refilling an applicator can be a one-person job. Greater operator visibility, for example, could come from camera and lighting systems, sight gauges, viewing windows, and remote control systems where operators can monitor and manage the liquid tender away from the cab. In addition to differing capacities, manufacturers might design liquid tenders to fit specific applications, including models featuring extra ground clearance, wider tire tracks, four-wheel steering, or a low-profile design to cover the rough terrain. Many options are equipped with high-powered pumps with electric and manual starters, and with hoses stretching beyond 20 feet (6 meters) that provide flexible refill options in the field.
