New AFS Tech Gives Case IH Precision Disk Air Drills Better Seed Depth Control

Case IH recently unveiled its new AFS Furrow Command technology, which works in conjunction with the Precision Disk series air drills’ parallel-link row units to automate downforce settings for more consistent seed depth. This newest item in the AFS toolkit eliminates the need for operators to adjust hydraulic pressure settings for changing field conditions.

“When it comes to seeding, growers need to make every moment in the field count,” says Trent Nowosad, Case IH marketing manager for seeding equipment. “AFS Furrow Command will help operators set the correct row unit down pressure, so they are at the right depth in the field at the right time. In-cab feedback, such as percent ground contact, downforce monitoring, and mapping make AFS Furrow Command easy to set.”

How It Works

The technology, which will be available on 2023 Precision Disk series air drills with AFS Furrow Command, automates downforce settings of air drill row units by varying the hydraulic pressure to maintain contact between the gauge wheel and the ground. AFS’s in-cab feedback also helps operators minimize the force required to maintain gauge wheel contact with the ground, reducing component wear over time. Adjustments made using AFS Furrow Command can be made right from the tractor seat, and operators can view feedback from AFS Furrow Command in the cab.

“AFS Furrow Command helps producers get the most potential out of every seed they put in the ground,” explains Nowosad. “It ensures every seed is placed accurately no matter the conditions, be it hard ground or heavy residue.”

Case IH Precision Disk Air Drills

Case IH Precision Disk air drills are available in toolbar widths from 30 to 60 feet (9.1 to 18.3 meters); Precision Disk 550-series models work with tow-behind or tow-between air carts. Case IH also offers a 550T series that comes equipped with a mounted seed tank with a 110-bushel (3,876-liter) or 140-bu (4,933-L) capacity on 30- or 40-ft (12.2-m) variants, respectively. Producers in need of larger tank capacities can opt for the Precision Disk 500DS, which is available in tank capacities from 350 to 950 bu (12,333 to 33,477 L).
