Great Plains Introduces 50-Foot Working Width For BD7600 Box Drill
Great Plains recently announced some updates and a new, wider addition to its BD7600 series of box drills. Headlining the announcement is the arrival of a new, 50-foot (15.2-meter) working-width BD7600, with a product capacity of 181 bushels (6,378 liters) that maintains the series’ split-box configuration that lets growers simultaneously use up to three fertilizer-to-seed ratios and has a seeding capacity of 3.8 bushels per foot (134 liters per foot).
“With the increase in working width and box capacity, the 50-foot BD7600 brings productivity and efficiency together to improve producer profitability,” says Great Plains Associate Product Manager Sterling Stepp. “Whether producers need a simple-to-operate, ground drive unit or a technologically advanced hydraulic drive unit to overcome field variability, the new BD7600 50-ft sets each operator up for success.”
The BD7600 Series
Great Plains’ BD7600 box drills are now available in 26-ft (7.9-m), 30-ft (9.1-m), 40-ft (12.2-m), and 50-ft working widths. The drills come equipped with a hydraulic drive seed-metering system that works hand in hand with Great Plain’s DrillCommand technology, which gives growers the option to use prescription map variable rate control and hydraulic calibration. The ISOBUS-compatible DrillCommand also provides operators with an easy-to-navigate interface and full control over seed rate and speed adjustment options without the need to leave the cab.
Great Plains Metering System
The BD7600 series uses the Great Plains Metering System, which has the versatility to meter large seeds, small seeds, fertilizer, and cover crops using the same seed cup. Great Plains says input gates located above the meter adjust the seed flow to the meter wheels, a design that lets producers turn off rows as needed to alter row spacing and speed up calibration. The drill is built with a geometry that allows convenient filling without moving seed by hand, and the heavy-duty box system completed over million twist cycles during Great Plain’s rigorous testing.
