HORSCH Broadens Seed Drill Lineup With New Avatar 18 M
German manufacturer HORSCH has expanded its lineup of no-till agriculture equipment with a new Avatar M series of seed drills it says can operate reliably in the most difficult soil conditions while minimizing soil movement and providing erosion protection. The first product from the new lineup will be HORSCH’s Avatar 18 M, which features a 59-foot (18-meter) working width.
A Triple-Chamber Attack
The Avatar M series joins the farm equipment manufacturer’s Avatar SD and Avatar SW lineups. The M series is based on a new central frame seed wagon concept that creates new possibilities thanks to its triple-tank hopper system. The three separate chambers have individual capacities of 4,409, 11,684, and 11,684 pounds (2,000, 5,300, and 5,300 liters), giving growers the option to simultaneously meter up to three products, and the machine’s SingleDisc coulters can simultaneously place them.
HORSCH gives Avatar 18 M users highly granular control during application, allowing settings adjustments at the individual coulter level to precisely match their fields’ soil conditions and maintain precise seed placement in the interest of optimal emergence, HORSCH says. The company notes that SingleDisc coulter technology has gained interest throughout Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, and China, and particularly in portions of Great Britain, Germany, and France, where farmers are enlisting new sowing technologies that reduce soil disturbance. HORSCH says farmers in Australia, Central Europe, and the United States have been using Avatar seed drills in their operations.
Save The Seed
In addition to a half-width shutoff function that saves seed and/or fertilizer in headlands and wedge-shaped fields, the Avatar 18 M includes large chassis tires to help minimize soil disruption. Optional features include a hopper weigh system, HORSCH’s WorkLight Pro LED headlight system for nighttime work, and pushed trash wheels that remove organic residue from the seed horizon.
