John Deere Introduces Industry-First Tractor-Planter Fertilizing Solution Featuring ExactRate Technology
If you’re a grower who wants to apply high rates of liquid fertilizer at planting in order to make fewer refill and tender stops, John Deere has a new factory-installed integrated tractor-planter solution for you. Featuring Deere’s ExactRate technology, this industry-first solution eliminates a need for add-on tanks and custom plumbing solutions and multiple suppliers, Deere says.
Debuting at this week’s Commodity Classic, the on-planter ExactRate system fertilizes new crops twice as fast as previous solutions while functioning seamlessly with other Deere technologies that enable simultaneous planting.
“A new model year 2022 John Deere planter with increased capacities, paired with the integrated ExactRate tanks on an 8RX tractor, is an evolutionary planting solution that can increase capacity, minimize soil compaction, and precisely place seed and fertilizer," says Kevin Juhl, Deere marketing manager.
Greater Capacity, Fewer Refills
Deere’s solution consists of an 8RX tractor with integrated 1,000-gallon (3,785-liter) ExactRate tanks paired with factory-installed fluid tanks on a MY22 Deere planter holding up to 600 gallons (2,271 L). The ability to carry 1,600 gallons (6,056 L) of liquid fertilizer results in several hours between refills, Deere says. Deere also increased seed tank capacity on MY22 planters by 30% to 130 bushels, and offers an option to replace the tires on MY22 1775NT planters with factory-installed tracks for better flotation and an up to 73% reduction in ground pressure when fully loaded to 13.3 pounds per square inch. MY22 planters are available for order beginning this summer.
"When farmers think about 1,600 gallons being applied at 20 gallons (76 L) per acre, it means they could plant up to 80 acres of corn between fills," Juhl says. He says numerous independent studies show that fertilizer applied at planting provides the best opportunity for plant health, on-time maturity, and increased bushels per acre.
Stay Connected
Farmers can use Deere’s Operations Center platform to plan planting operations and monitor performance, and can use a Generation 4 display in the cab to monitor fertilizer and seed data. A JDLink connection enables sharing data with the Operations Center. Farmers can also compare previous years’ planting data using Deere’s Connect Mobile app, and review performance data post-harvest using the Field Analyzer tool.
