New KUHN Knight HP 160 Manure Spreader Increases Heaped Capacity
KUHN has introduced the Knight HP 160 to its ProPush lineup of hydraulic push box spreaders, which feature a push-type design without apron chains for fewer moving parts and a more dependable service life. Notably, the KUHN Knight HP 160’s 600 cubic feet heaped capacity is greater than the 2044 (365 cubic feet) and 2054 ProPush (515 cubic feet) models in KUHN’s hydraulic push box spreader family. KUHN says it’s ideal for hauling and spreading solid materials from dairies and feedlots.
Commercial Duty
KUHN builds the Knight HP 160 with an all-steel, welded frame to provide the strength and rigidity to support large heaped capacities. For instance, a solid weld-in tongue is cross-braced to provide a solid anchor for the pusher cylinder. The new manure spreader also features KUHN’s VertiSpread vertical beaters, which are said to provide a uniform 25- to 30-foot spread pattern. The VertiSpread beaters are capable of handling gutter manure, yard scrapings, bedding pack, and feedlot manure, among other materials.
ProPush Design
KUHN protects the hydraulic cylinders on the Knight HP 160 with a structural tube member, and says it prevents manure from falling onto the cylinder—a common cause of premature seal failure. The efficient system provides smooth, uniform travel throughout the entire stroke and delivers rapid retraction once spreading is complete. To minimize friction and improve cleanout, KUHN equips the Knight HP 160 with a polylaminate floor. Power from the tractor to the unit is transferred through a center-mounted PTO driveline, which can operate at 1,000 rpm, either at 1 3/8 or 1 ¾ inch to adapt to the tractor.
